- Part 2 : the most beautiful classics of the Old Jazz & Blues repertoire from Jelly Roll Morton to Bessie Smith, all played with accuracy and respect for tradition.
Little Guinguette
POCKET SWING ORCHESTRA
Little Guinguette takes us back to the time when Swing was all the rage in the smoky bars of Harlem and Saint-Germain-des-Prés. From Billie Holiday to Sidney Bechet via Joséphine Baker, the trio from Montpellier brilliantly interprets the great standards of Jazz as well as the forgotten gems of the 1930s and 1940s.
The velvety sound of the clarinet, mixed with the sweetness of the voice and the cornet, the sensuality of the saxophone, all transported by the swing of a gypsy guitar and the percussion of a pair of tap shoes. This alchemy of timbres brings back the blues, ballads and charlestons of yesteryear.
Gramophone Stomp
GYPSY JAZZ & SWING
Gramophone Stomp applies to reproduce the unique way to ring this set of acoustic instruments which was the color of vintage recordings ... A "frenchy" jazz orchestration filled with a common passion for early Django Reinhardt's art which music is so lively and popular.
Despite their virtuoso and solo aspirations, the members of Gramophone Stomp are defenders of music full of enthusiasm and rhythm.
The sparkling exchanges between the musicians on stage bring the arrangements to life. The public is invited to share these moments of complicity, and to remember that "roaring twenties" fever which was in the Paris of the 1930s !
Back to Bix
AUTHENTIC NEW ORLEANS
Halfway between fanfare and chamber jazz, Back To Bix (B2B for friends) pays tribute to the traditional jazz of New Orleans and Chicago. The Quintet from Montpellier finds its inspiration in the masters of traditional "old style" jazz: Bix Beiderbecke, of course, but also King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Jimmie Noone, Duke Ellington, and many others.
Back To Bix interprets in its own way the jazz classics of a century ago and also concocts some original arrangements, while giving a great place to collective improvisation and polyphonic arrangements in the "Early Jazz" style, on syncopated rhythms!
